Prioritising establishment

Tree Planting

Professional tree planting across Northern Ireland and Ireland, from species selection to long-term establishment.

Professional Tree Planting

Whether you are replacing a tree following removal, fulfilling a planning condition or enhancing your property, selecting the right tree is just as important as planting it correctly.

At McNamara Tree Consultancy, we provide professional tree planting advice and planting services throughout Northern Ireland and Ireland. We take the time to assess your site, ensuring that the chosen species is suitable for the available space, soil conditions and surrounding environment. By following recognised arboricultural best practice, we help give every tree the best possible chance of establishing and thriving for generations to come.

Choosing the right types of trees for your garden

The best trees for small gardens are rarely the ones sold by volume at garden centres. Species selection should start from the space available, the soil, the drainage and what you want the tree to do: screening for privacy, blossom, autumn colour or wildlife value. A tree that suits its site needs far less intervention for the rest of its life.

As independent consultants we have no stock to sell, so the species recommended for your garden or estate are chosen purely on suitability, whether that is a compact ornamental for a courtyard or native broadleaves for a field boundary.

Planting trees for climate change and the environment

Trees are one of the most effective tools we have against climate change, locking up carbon, cooling streets and buildings, intercepting rainfall and supporting wildlife. But those benefits only arrive if the tree survives its first years. Well-chosen species, proper ground preparation, correct planting depth, mulching and aftercare are what turn a planted whip into an established tree. See our guide to 10 types of trees that fight climate change for species that deliver the most.

Planting is also how landscaping conditions attached to planning permissions are discharged. If your permission includes replacement or mitigation planting, we can select and plant to satisfy the condition, and a BS 5837 tree survey earlier in the process often reduces how much replacement planting is needed. For advice on an existing tree before deciding to replace it, see our tree risk assessments.
