Tree Health and Condition Surveys
Not every tree owner has large trees that could pose a risk to people or property. Many of us instead have smaller, ornamental trees in our gardens: trees we relax underneath in a summer haze, or admire as they gather snow in the winter.
We provide health and condition reports on individual trees and small groups of trees, most often in residential settings. The tree is inspected for signs of decline and for defects that could shorten its life, and you receive a written report setting out what was found.
Where defects are observed, the report gives clear guidance on any remedial works worth carrying out. In the rare cases where a tree cannot be saved, it recommends suitable replacements along with guidance on planting and aftercare.
A condition survey is about the health of the tree rather than the liability of the owner. Where the concern is the risk a tree poses to people or property, a tree risk assessment is the appropriate service instead, and we will say so rather than sell you the wrong survey.

A tree condition survey includes
- Visual inspection of the tree from ground level, including the stem, root collar and visible crown
- Identification of the species, and an assessment of its general health and vigour
- Notes on defects, decay, fungal fruiting bodies, pests and diseases where present
- Clear, proportionate recommendations, including doing nothing where nothing needs doing
- A written report you can keep as a record, or share with a neighbour, insurer or managing agent
